Beautiful Views, Fabulous Wines, and Wonderful Hospitality

Stoneledge wines

The Texas Hill Country is home to over 50 wineries and 5 of them are located near Lampasas, TX. Andy and I first made it out to Stoneledge Winery and Vineyard not long after they opened in 2018. Taking a beautiful scenic drive in the country about 15 minutes west of Lampasas and south of Lometa you arrive at the hilltop location of this award winning winery and vineyard.

Friendly owners Greg and Deborah Gissler opened Stoneledge Winery and Vineyard in 2018. The tasting room, pavilion, and expansive 11-acre Texas Hill Country AVA vineyard are all located on this beautiful elevated property. The view from Stoneledge Winery is fabulous and they even have a swing on an oak tree near the ledge and additional outdoor seating allowing you to enjoy that beautiful scenic hill country view. The "ledge" faces west which makes for a romantic evening watching the sunset. The inviting and beautiful tasting room is a wonderful design, with a unique touch of a gorgeous copper countertop, hand hammered by Greg. In the back of the tasting room is a wall to wall window view of the tank room below. To top it all off their staff is outstanding and the wine and food is always served with a smile.

In the summer, the large airy pavilion becomes their tasting room. On Saturdays you can hear live music from artists on their built-in stage while enjoying wine tastings or a glass of your favorite Stoneledge wine. There is usually local food trucks providing something tasty and now you can try your hand at a game of pickleball on their newly installed court. They also offer specialty pizzas (our favorite being the fig and prosciutto) and beautiful charcuterie and cheese boards.

They have many events throughout the year to include wine and food pairings, workshops from local artisans, Star Parties with the Lampasas Friends of the Night Sky, and even an occasional bonfire with s’mores around their giant fire pit when the weather is cooler. They also host a Hill Country area winery tasting event in the spring called Sipping-On-The-Ledge with many of the wineries from around the hill country region and local food trucks. Another special annual event is grape harvest at the end of summer. It is a wonderful time and it gives you an up close and personal experience picking wine grapes with other volunteers alongside owner, Greg and the vineyard manager, Josh.

Now I will get to their fabulous wines! They have many award winning and estate grown Texas wines to choose from. I will start with my personal favorite, their Bronze Medal 2017 Sangiovese, this is a smooth red wine, with notes of dark cherry and tobacco. I like to drink this wine when I want a glass that I can truly enjoy and savor and usually eat with a bite of dark chocolate while I’m cooking a red sauce pasta dish. You know the phrase “I love cooking with wine, and sometimes I even add it to the food”-unknown. Yep, that’s me!
